Securing leads at the collar without leaving plastic behind

Glen 3 Oct 2026 1 min read

Plastic lead retainers end up in the muck pile. A compostable alternative holds leads during charging, then breaks down after the blast.

Detonator cord and signal tube must stay in position at the collar while holes are charged and stemmed. Traditional retainers do the job, but they are plastic, and most of them end up in the muck pile and the downstream process.

What the collar device has to do

  • Hold 3–5 mm det-cord and NONEL signal tube in place during loading
  • Release cleanly under load, so tube does not stretch, snap and initiate
  • Collapse safely if pulled into the hole during a slump
  • Stay visible at the collar

A compostable alternative

LineSaver™ is made from PFAS-free bagasse and protected by Australian Standard Patent 2024200881. It is single-use, needs no retrieval, and biodegrades within weeks after the blast. Across current users it displaces more than 4 tonnes of plastic a year.

Centre the booster too

Initiation quality also depends on where the booster sits. In underground holes from Ø62 to Ø127 mm, a primer spider like RockStar™ locks 250 g boosters at the centre of the hole for consistent placement.
